РусскийThe article, in the context of the creation and development of Soviet higher school methods of teaching foreign languages, examines the main milestones in more than a century history of the Department of Foreign languages in the structure of Ivanovo-Voznesensk Polytechnic Institute (1918-1930) and Ivanovo Chemical-Technological Institute (1930- 1991). Important attention is paid to the teaching staff problem, various methods of teaching a foreign language, providing educational literature and to the content of the first basic textbooks for chemical students. The work is based on archival documents, sources on the history of the Department and the personal experience of the author.
