REPRESENTATIONS OF THE BATTLE OF WARSAW IN THE MEDIA SPACE: STRATEGIES OF MYTHOLOGIZATION AND SACRALIZATION

The article is devoted to various aspects of representation in the mass media of the Battle of Warsaw - the key event of the Soviet-Polish war of 1920. Emphasis is placed on the strategies of mythologization and sacralization of the Battle of Warsaw in Polish historical and political discourse. The main sources of the research were the media, as well as statements by figures significant for Polish historical and political discourse. Conclusions are drawn about the dependence of the representation of the Battle of Warsaw on the ideological basis of a particular publication, as well as on the presence of several constants characteristic of the analyzed representations. Among these constants, the following are highlighted: the anti-Soviet nature of the publications, the positioning of Poland as the savior of Europe, as well as the sacralization of the Battle of Warsaw. As a result, the event itself ceased to exist as exclusively historical; it transformed into a multi-layered, multi-aspect concept, the core of which was Polish Prometheism and Polish messianism.

Key words: Poland, Polish foreign policy, Battle of Warsaw, Polish-Russian relations, sacralization of foreign policy events, Polish messianism, Polish Prometheism
