MODERN ELECTRONIC DICTIONARY AS A SOURCE OF EXTRALINGUISTIC INFOR-MATION (THROUGH THE EXAMPLE OF THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC)

This article is devoted to the study of English language online dictionaries and the establishment of extralinguistic information in them. A brief description of the lexicographic resources under study is given. In the course of the study, the methods of presenting extra-linguistic material at all levels of the dictionary were analyzed, starting from the micro level, that is, the dictionary entry, to the macro level, which in our case includes not only a set of dictionary entries, but also additional sections and blogs designed for a wide range of users and significantly increasing the information potential of the modern dictionary. The conclusion is made about the expansion of the functional purpose of electronic linguistic dictionaries as a result of the use of innovative multimedia capabilities.
