The article describes the notion of a fairy tale, which is one of the most attractive from the perspective of defining cultural peculiarities and valuable aspects of a nation as fairy tales are considered to reflect the national specific features of a language world view and the peculiarities of cultural and historical development of a nation. The research is based on the analysis of the lexicon of the English folk fairy tales. The names of animals that reflect the English value picture of the world and comprise the nucleus and periphery of the lexico-semantic group “animals” have been defined. The importance of the analysis of the English folk fairy tales which will help define the values of the Englishmen and add to the national language picture of the world of the Englishmen is underlined. The analysis of functioning of the names of animals in the English folk fairy tales is conducted. The aim of the research is a linguistic description of the integral world view that reflects the material and mental culture peculiarities of the English. Such analysis helps contribute to the existing national world view and the national language picture of the world of the Englishmen.
