The purpose of this article is to consider the structure of the course “Social and Political Texts in English” addressed to the students of the International Relations Department, School of History, Ivanovo State University. The peculiarities of teaching this subject, the target audience of which are foreign students, are discussed. The most effective methods of teaching such students are given. The teaching process is based on cross-cultural communication with special emphasis on ethnic and cultural stereotypes. The authors shows that using different styles of behavior, taking into account the situation, cultural and psychological attitudes of the participants in the communicative process, the use of the English language makes it possible to overcome the stereotypical thinking of students.
