TRADITIONAL AND INNOVATIVE METHODS OF TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGES

The purpose of the article is to try to solve the problem of increasing the effectiveness of foreign language training in Russian universities and forming the necessary universal and professional competencies for University graduates. The general scientific methods of comparative analysis, synthesis and generalization of the most common approaches, as well as existing methods and techniques of teaching a foreign language were applied. The advantages of choosing a pragmatic interdisciplinary multi-aspect approach to teaching a foreign language at a University are noted. Traditional and new forms of work used in Petrozavodsk State University are presented as results. Examples are given and the potential of project tasks is described. There is positive feedback from students about the use of new work forms in the foreign language course. The Author concludes that it is expedient to combine traditional forms of work and professionally oriented project tasks when teaching a foreign language at a University.
