The article contains the critical analysis of the concept of “creative class” proposed by Richard Florida in 2002. Attention is drawn to the hidden contradiction contained in this concept: in fact, it does not indicate social, but rather specific personality characteristics. It is assumed that the key role in the development of these personal qualities is played by the socio-psychological climate of a settlement (in particular, a city), which has a direct impact on the development of the creative environment. One of the important indicators of the development of this environment is its role in the constructive resolving of personal identity crises. It is emphasized that the development of the educational space of a particular city can be crucial for these processes.
