VISUALIZATION IN EDUCATION AND SCIENCE: CHALLENGES OF TIME AND DIGITALIZATION

The paper considers the important role of such a complex mental activity as visualization in relation to challenge of the time and the consequences of digitalization. The history of the issue is briefly stated on the basis of domestic and foreign approaches. The paper contains examples of various types of speech activity including visualization as a means of effective presentation, perception and interpretation of educational and scientific information (in lectures presentations, student speeches, research papers and their digital abstracts). Particular attention is paid to the effectiveness of infographics in learning and academic activity as an element of visualization and a means of mobilizing cognitive abilities: critical thinking, analysis and synthesis of information, its strong memorization and the formation of the reproduction skill, a positive emotional background when working with a source of information in  a foreign language. The conclusion is made about the underestimation of visualization both in the domestic practice of teaching a foreign language and in the methodology of teaching students various types of speech activity in a foreign language. The need for wider implementation of the achievements of digitalization in the educational process is considered as the current time challenge.
